M.O.R.E.  - MEN'S OUTREACH ENDEAVORS

Founded in 1999,. M.O.R.E. has provided Christian fellowship and camaraderie for the men of Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church while providing monetary and physical support for those in need in and around our community.  One Monday a month the men meet at the church for breakfast. On the other Mondays of the month the breakfasts are at one of the restaurants or cafes in Sequim.

In the area of physical support, many hours are expended to set up and run the annual garage yard sale; the setup, preparation, and serving the people at the Summer Fling and Wednesday night pizza dinners; the physical tasks required to help WELCA set up for their Christmas Bazaar; helping people move locally; and handyman tasks within their range of expertise.

M.O.R.E. derives income from the garage/yard sale, Safeway Club card registry, donations (including those for the pizza dinners and men's breakfasts at the church), and special projects some of which are wholly or partially matched by Thrivent (e.g. garage/yard sale and Summer Fling).

In 2006, M.O.R.E. distributed $ 13,134.54 to the following organizations/activities:

  • Dream Center-Serenity House of Clallam County
  • First Step
  • Health Families of Clallam County
  • Rose House
  • Sequim Community Help Center
  • WELCA of DVLC - Garage Sale Support
  • Sequim Food Bank
  • Salvation Army
  • DVLC - Shrove Tuesday
  • Dinner
  • DVLC Playground Equipment
  • M.O.R.E. Guest Breakfasts & Lunches

Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA)

The mission statement of the Women of the ELCA is "to mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ."

Toward that end, the Craft Circle and the Quilt Circle has been meeting almost every week for the purpose of ministry action both locally and internationally.

2006 Christmas Bazaar -The Craft Circle's contribution to local ministry benefiting women and children was
$ 6,847.71.  These funds were distributed to the following:

  • Dream Center
  • True Star
  • First Step
  • Rose House
  • DVLC Clinic

The Quilt Circle received a request from the American Red Cross for 55 lap robes to be sent to the Walter Reed Hospital.  These robes were sent and distributed to wounded military men and women.

The Quilt Circle shipped 52 quilts and five pounds of soap to Lutheran World Relief in May, 2006.  In November, 2006 this was followed up with 42 quilts, 32 school kits, 4 layettes, and one box of soap.

Funds were sent to the Salvation Army to help pay for a dishwasher in their Soup Kitchen.

In response to a request from Thrivent, WELCA women provided and served lunch for a crew of volunteers building a home in one week for Habitat for Humanity in Port Angeles.

For Shrove Tuesday, WELCA cooked and served a pancake supper using supplies provided by M.O.R.E.

WELCA also hosted the World Day of Prayer which featured South Africa.  Charles and Betsy McCordic, who had served in South Africa during critical periods of history, spoke at the meeting giving personal insight to the subject.

Another important function of WELCA is that of providing coffee and cookies for church services as well as assisting at funeral services with refreshments.
